Quaid went on to wed Kimberly Buffington in 2004, and the two welcomed twins Thomas and Zoe in 2007. Their relationship came to a close in 2018.

Ahead of his and Savoie’s June 2020 nuptials, Quaid exclusively told Us Weekly that he and his bride had to “get married first” before welcoming any children together.

[15] The film was slated to have a summer 2019 release; however, it is still in pre-production [14] and was scheduled to begin filming in May 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[16] Personal life[edit]

Relationships and children[edit]

Quaid has been married four times and has three children.

He met his first wife, actress P. J. Soles, on the set of the film Our Winning Season.[17] They were married in 1978 and divorced in 1983.[18]

On February 14, 1991, he married actress Meg Ryan. Quaid and Ryan fell in love during the shooting of their second film together, D.O.A.[19] They have a son, Jack Henry Quaid (born 1992).[20] Quaid and Ryan announced their separation on June 28, 2000, saying they had been separated six weeks by then.[19] Their divorce was finalized in July 2001.[21]

Quaid dated model Shanna Moakler from February to October 2001.[23]

He married Texas real-estate agent Kimberly Buffington on July 4, 2004, at his ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana.[24] They have fraternal twins who were born via a surrogate on November 8, 2007, in Santa Monica, California.[25][26]

On November 18, 2007, hospital staff mistakenly gave Quaid’s ten-day-old twins a dosage of heparin (a blood thinner) that was 1,000 times the common dosage for infants.[27][28] The babies recovered, but Quaid filed a lawsuit against the drug manufacturer, Baxter Healthcare, claiming that packaging for the two doses of heparin are not different enough.[29] In May 2008, the Quaids testified before the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, asking U.S. Congress not to preempt the right to sue drug manufacturers for negligence under state law.[30] This incident led Quaid to become a patient-safety advocate, producing a series of documentaries on preventable medical errors that aired on the Discovery Channel[31][32] as well as co-authoring a medical journal article addressing the positive influence of patient stories in motivating change in healthcare.[33] The first documentary, Chasing Zero: Winning the War on Healthcare Harm, aired on the Discovery Channel in 2010,[31][32] and the second documentary, Surfing the Healthcare Tsunami: Bring Your Best Board, aired on the Discovery Channel in 2012.[34][35][36][37]

Did Dennis Quaid’s twins survive?

Every year in the United States, more people die from medical mistakes than from breast cancer, AIDS and car accidents…combined. « It’s a major, major health issue that will touch almost every single American at one point in our lives, » Oprah says.In November 2007, one such mistake almost took the lives of infant twins, the children of actor Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly. Dennis and Kimberly’s story begins with two small blessings, Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace. « We were so happy to be able to be blessed by those two, » Dennis says. « They both came out so perfect. »Days after the twins came home from the hospital, however, they developed serious staph infections. Doctors told Dennis and Kimberly to take their newborns to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where they were given antibiotics intravenously. On their second day at Cedars-Sinai, Dennis says the twins seemed to be doing well, so he and his wife went home to get some rest. That night, Kimberly says she had an overwhelming feeling that something was wrong. Dennis called the hospital to check on their children, but a nurse assured him everything was fine. They found out later that, at the time of the call, Thomas and Zoe were actually in serious danger.

When they arrived at Cedars-Sinai the next morning, members of the medical staff were waiting with terrible news. « This started probably the worst day of our lives, » Dennis says.

The Quaids learned that nurses had accidentally given their children two powerful doses of Heparin, a blood thinner that’s prescribed to keep IV lines clear and prevent blood clots. « They got a thousand times the dose of Heparin that they were supposed to get, » Dennis says.

In a way, Nora Ephron and Rob Reiner are the real-life Harry and Sally. Everything from their little personality quirks to their candid discussions about men and women inspired the material for the characters.

The creative team had a tough time figuring out exactly what to call this film, so Rob Reiner held a title-naming contest, rewarding the best pitch with a full case of champagne. Nora Ephron also came up with Boy Meets Girl, Just Friends, Words of Love, and Harry, This is Sally.

While Nora Ephron was prepping the film, she interviewed real couples who worked at the film’s production company. Their stories were adapted into the script and scattered throughout the the movie.

Did in the cut end Meg Ryan’s career?

Leigh noted that Ryan had always been able to act with the sort of eroticism she channeled in In the Cut—“It just wasn’t asked of her before.”

In the new Marchese interview, Ryan calls her In the Cut role a “real turning point” that marked the end of her stardom. (She says she and Hollywood tired of each other around the same time; she’s appeared in a handful of movies since then but is trying to turn to directing.) That self-diagnosis adds a new data point to our broadening understanding of the twisted and treacherous paths to success for women in Hollywood. Ryan says that early in her career she shied away from marketing herself as a sex symbol, and had decided to be “the funny person rather than the pretty person.” Then, when she split from husband Dennis Quaid and starred in a film that called for explicit sexuality, her audience felt betrayed.

Ryan’s sweet, fresh-faced persona was a fickle sort of cultural currency, a cachet that could be undone by a single unexpected role. But the opposite route would have been no easier: Actresses who start off in sex symbol mode (see: Megan Fox) have found it difficult to be accepted as anything else.

How many kids did Dennis Quaid have with Meg Ryan?

I think I’m a good dad, » he said. « It turned out so far so good. Jack really turned out well. I’m really proud of him, and Thomas and Zoe too. »

Jack Henry Quaid was born on April 24, 1992, in Los Angeles, to Quaid and Ryan. The couple had been married for a year by the time they welcomed their first child together. However, they separated in 2000 before finalizing their divorce in 2001.

Looking back at that time, Jack — who was 8 when his parents split — said it was « one of those weird ages for your parents to get divorced » on the Allegedly with Theo Von & Matthew Cole Weiss podcast. He explained, « You’re old enough to know what’s going on, but young enough to be kind of naïve about it. It’s a whole deal. »

While on the podcast, he reflected on his childhood and acknowledged that the way he grew up was « not normal. »

He added, « But at the same time, it was normal in the sense that despite what my parents do, they are still a mom and a dad. It’s not like they are their characters at the dinner table or anything like that. »

Growing up, it was evident to Quaid that his son would become an actor. Speaking to Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show in October 2020, the actor said that Jack expressed an interest in acting at « a very, very, very young age. »

« He had a video camera in his hand when he was like 4 years old, making little videos and stuff, » Quaid said.

Meg Ryan Was Not Asked to Return

Director Joseph Kosinski told Insider that the return of both Ryan and Kelly McGillis was never even considered during development. Kosinski did not want every storyline in the film « to be looking backwards, » and he instead took the time to introduce new characters.
